Body Recovered of Man Missing in Cooleemee River Park
COOLEEMEE, N.C. -- Rescue crews searched for a missing man in the water for several hours Saturday. His body turned up around 9 p.m.
Officials received a call for a possible drowning around 2:39 p.m. Saturday at the Cooleemee River Park, also called the "Bullhole". The park is on Erwin Temple Church Road in Rowan County, near Davie County.
WCCB is told that four people and a dog were rescued today in that incident but crews were searching the river for a fifth victim, 45-year-old Steven Tanksley, who went in the water after one of the victims slipped off the dam. Crews searched for about six hours; they found the body of Tanksley around 9 p.m.
A witness said they saw one man hanging on to a tree.
Rowan County Rescue Team, Davie County Rescue Team, Woodleaf Fire Department, two other fire departments and the Rowan County Emergency Management Team assisted.
