WAXHAW, N.C. - "This is something they need to take a look at how or why something like this happened."  Waxhaw resident Gary Flouhouse says two weeks ago, his black pocket knife accidentally traveled with him, in his carry-on bag, on a flight to Israel.

He discovered it while unpacking from the trip at home.  Flouhouse traveled with 10 fellow church members and says one of the guys in the group says he accidentally traveled with a small caliber bullet in his carry on.  Flouhouse says, "That's two people out of a group of 11 of us that went that had something in their bag that wasn't supposed to be there."

That man discovered the bullet upon arriving in Israel and discarded it there.  As for Flouhouse, he says he passed through six security check points undetected: Charlotte, Philly, Tel Aviv on the way there and Tel Aviv, Philly and Charlotte on the way home.

He says, "You'd like to think that type of thing would be caught."

We took Flouhouse's concerns to the TSA, which tells us, in part, "...in today's post 9/11 security environment, intelligence tells us our officers' greatest focus needs to be the biggest threat to aviation today - explosives and explosives components.  While items such as sharp objects and a single bullet remain prohibited, they will not cause catastrophic damage on an aircraft."

Flouhouse says he does feel safe flying and understands that there is no fool-proof security measure.  But even still, he says, "I think it's just like me running  my own business, when something's not right, I appreciate when somebody tells me that there's a kink so I can fix it and do a better job."
