CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have charged 50-year-old Kirk Evans, for his involvement in a sexual assault case that happened in 1994.

On February 15, 1994, a female victim was walking along Beatties Ford Road when Mr. Evans approached her and forced her into a vehicle. Mr. Evans then drove to a location on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road where he sexually assaulted and robbed the victim. The suspect then released the victim and she contacted authorities. Detectives responded to the scene to investigate, but were unable to identify the suspect at that time.

In late 2013, detectives re-examined evidence related to the case and submitted DNA to a lab for results. Officials say the DNA results matched that of Kirk Evans. Evans was arrested by officers on Tuesday morning. He is charged with First Degree Rape, First Degree Kidnapping and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
