North Charlotte Double Shooting Kills One

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at the 1100 block of Fontana Avenue in the Metro Division. 

The call for service came in at 11:47 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2012.  The victim information is being withheld pending family notification.

Metro Division patrol officers responded to a call for service in reference to two subjects that had been shot on Fontana Avenue.  Upon arrival officers located two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. 

Medic arrived on the scene and transported one victim to CMC Main where he was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.  Thatt victim has been identified as Michael Crawley, 47. The second victim was transported to Presbyterian Main where he is currently in critical condition.

The suspect vehicle was located a short distance from the scene.  K-9 responded to the scene and attempted to track the suspect, but were unable to locate anyone in the area.  Detectives with the Homicide Unit are canvassing the neighborhood to determine if anyone has any information that will aid in the investigation.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team as well as the Vice and Gang Unit responded to the scene.

The investigation is in its early stages, as additional information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
