Gaston County Man Escapes After Police Chase
LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C.-- Police are searching for a Gaston County man after a two-state chase Friday morning.
39-year-old James Curtis Stewart of McAdenville was pulled over at 3:30 a.m. in Lincoln County. He was driving a red Ford Ranger pickup truck with a large load of scrap metal in the back.
Authorities say the deputy who checked his license discovered that there were outstanding felony warrants against Stewart in Mecklenburg County. When the warrants were mentioned, Stewart took off on a multi-county chase.
The pursuit started on southbound N.C. 16, moved to the outer loop of 485, and then led to Interstate 77. Authorities finally called off the chase between Charlotte and Columbia due to heavy traffic.
Stewart faces charges of felony fleeing to elude law enforcement and numerous traffic charges. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 704-732-9050.
