Gov. McCrory Names Acting SBI Director
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Governor Pat McCrory appointed a new director of the State Bureau of Investigation Thursday in Charlotte.
Bernard (B.W.) Collier II will be sworn into office on Monday. During his tenure with the SBI, Collier has served as a drug investigator, pilot, arson and crime scene agent, canine handler, technical agent and bomb squad commander, according to a press release.
Officials say Collier was previously the director and special agent in charge of the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center, a SBI section that deals with criminal information and intelligence gathering, when he was appointed director of Alcohol Law Enforcement in 2013.
During Thursday's news conference, McCrory also transferred the State Bureau of Investigation from the North Carolina Department of Justice to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, where it will operate as an independent agency. The Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission will also transfer to the Department of Public Safety.
