Lake Norman Party House Has Residents ConcernedDENVER, NC – A picturesque summer rental on Lake Norman has neighbors talking, but for all the wrong reasons. A Lincoln County vacation rental has turned a perfect neighborhood into party city. A house set right on Lake Norman may seem like the perfect paradise vacation, but for Stephanie Marik, it’s a nightmare, “We can't live a normal quiet, peaceful life and that's why we moved here."
Neighbors in this community say they’re paying the price for a vacation rental that comes with a new party every week. Morgan Malmberg says the partying is constant, "We've had noise, traffic; we've had people sleeping in their cars up and down the road and we've found used protection in the yard."
People nearby say they see anywhere from 20 to 75 people going in and out of the Howard Lane home on any given day. Neighbors say that the parties started at this home almost 3 months ago and show no signs of slowing down. Some residents are so fed up that they're planning on taking some pretty extreme measures just to get away from it.
Lincoln County Residents Mark and Stephanie Marik say the partying at the house next door has become intolerable, “We are just going to move, and we can’t take the stress anymore.”
Lincoln County ordinance do not prohibit vacation rentals but Lincoln County administrators like Randy Hawkins are working on a solution, "We've looked at what other jurisdictions have done to address situations like this and we've been consulting the city manager.”
Still, residents like Mark Marik are still concerned that this is just the beginning, “Somebody who buys this house might turn it into a rental and then it’s going to be like a cancer and spread down the way.”
Lincoln County zone administrators say the earliest a public hearing could take place on this issue would be August.
