CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Charlotte mother is seeking help locating her 25-year old son, who has been missing for over one week.

Derrick Chambers went missing on Thursday, January 3. He told his father he was going to work at Champs Sports at Concord Mills, but when his mother, Melissa Garrett, called his work, they said they did not hear from him or even see him come into work that day.

Chambers, who does not have a car, uses the Charlotte Area Transit System to get to work. His family posted flyers around the transit stops. Employees of CATS say they recognized seeing his board one of their buses but were not able to give more information.

Chambers lives with his family in southwest Charlotte. His family expressed they are concerned because he has been going through tough times recently, but they do not suspect drug use.

Garrett has reached out to Chambers' friends. They do not know of his whereabouts either.

The family has referred to Chambers' cell phone usage for any clues. Records show he last made a phone call to his father on December 29, and last used the Internet on his phone on January 8.

If you think you have seen Derrik Chambers please call Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department at 704-336-7495. Detective Tuttle is investigating this case.
