NC Central University Police Chief Charged With DWI
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) --The police chief at North Carolina Central University has been charged with driving while impaired.
State troopers said 54-year-old Timothy Bellamy was at a driver's license checkpoint in Greensboro around 12:30 a.m. Saturday when an officer smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed his eyes were red and glassy.
Authorities say Bellamy did poorly on sobriety tests and registered a blood-alcohol level of .09 percent. The legal limit to drive is .08 percent.
The university says Bellamy has been suspended with pay after his arrest.
