CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Governor Highway Safety Program kicked off their Booze It or Lose It campaign Thursday night, in an effort to catch drunk drivers during the Halloween season.

The campaign lasts until October 31. Law enforcement will be out in full force to remove drunk drivers.

On the first night of the campaign, CMPD was located at a DWI checkpoint at the 4900 block of Providence Road from 10 PM to 3 AM. Police made a total of 53 arrests - 8 of which were DWI charges.

Police continued the campaign Friday night on the 6100 block of Brookshire Boulevard. Sixty-four arrests were made. Ten of those arrests were for drunk driving.
