Sheriff Deputy's 5-Year-Old Son Shoots Himself With Father's Service Revolver
WADESBORO, N.C. - The 5-year-old son of an Anson County sheriff deputy found his father's service revolver and fired one round that struck himself in his left ear at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff Tommy Allen said that the child was responsive and talking when he was taken from the Anson County Hospital to the Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte.
The sheriff, who was not on duty when the shooting happened, was the only one in the home with the child at the time of the shooting. The sheriff's name is not being released at this time.
Because the deputy lived in Wadesboro, the Wadesboro Police Department is investigating the incident along with an internal investigation by the Sheriff's Office of Anson County.
According to a statement from Sheriff Allen, the deputy is on administrative leave while they investigate the incident to determine what actions may be taken.
