South Charlotte Apartment Fire
CHARLOTTE, NC-Firefighters spent Tuesday night making sure no hot spots popped up. Nikki Livingston lives just a couple doors down from where the fire started at Reafield Village Apartments. "I had to go and wake up my boyfriend, go in and make sure he was awaked in case something happened." 10 units were affected by the fire, 8 had people living in them. The damage exceeds $750,000. 11 people lost their homes, but many are staying in empty apartments in this complex, or in nearby hotels. The good news is many had renters insurance, but that still can't replace the memories and some lost their pets. Nikki says "for this to happen in the Holidays it breaks my heart." Resident Amanda Phillips says "all their presents, the Christmas tree, and everything and I heard some animals, I can't imagine." Tuesday night residents were helping each other giving blankets and clothes to those who lost theirs in the fire. Amanda says "it's awful and I know a lot of people lost a lot of things that were important to them." Firefighters do not know the cause of the blaze yet. The Red Cross is also helping those who lost their homes. |
