State Budget Proposal Calls For Cuts In Education Spending

by Casie Kolbinsky

RALEIGH, N.C.--The new state budget proposal calls for large cuts in education spending.

The proposal decreases education spending by nearly $260 million this year.

At $11.5 billion, education is the largest portion of the $20.6 billion proposal.

The plan provides teachers with merit pay beginning next year, scraps their tenure and cuts funding for teaching assistants.
