SC man charged in wife's death found dead in home

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A Conway man accused of killing his wife earlier this year has been found dead in his home.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Monday that 53-year-old Daniel T. Monarch was found dead by a family member.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler says it appears Monarch died from natural causes, but officials are awaiting toxicology results to confirm the cause of death.

Monarch was indicted by an Horry County grand jury in August on charges of murder and possession of powder cocaine. He had been arrested in April and charged in the death of his 49-year-old wife, Phyllis Monarch.

The indictment says she died from being hit and strangled April 14.

Police say Daniel Monarch told them his wife had gone running and hadn't returned home.
