Sumter gets new slogan: Uncommon Patriotism

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — Sumter has come up with a new slogan for the city: Uncommon Patriotism.

The Sumter Item reports the city asked Greenville urban planning firm Arnett and Muldrow to meet with officials, business owners, community leaders and average citizens to come up with a new logo and slogan.

City Manager Deron McCormick says the logo, which looks like a wing, celebrates both Shaw Air Force Base and the Recovery statue at Swan Lake.

Officials say the slogan highlights how patriotism has been important in Sumter from the decision to name the city for American Revolutionary Gen. Thomas Sumter to the community's support of the Air Force base.

The new slogan will be rolled out slowly on business cards, decals on city vehicles and other materials.
