SC man sentenced to 30 years for beating death

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A Marlboro County man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to the beating death of a man nearly six years ago.

The Morning News of Florence reported that 44-year-old Dexter Palmer of Clio pleaded guilty Monday to murder in the death of 23-year-old Travis Gallishaw of Dillon.

Sheriff's deputies say Gallishaw was strangled and beaten at Palmer's home in February 2005. Gallishaw's body was found a month later in some woods between Clio and Blenheim.

Deputies did not release a motive in the death.
