NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Army National Guard's Combat Service Support Battalion in Newberry is getting a new commander.

Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Lester Carroll says Maj. Timothy Wood was taking command of the 751st Combat Service Support Battalion during a ceremony Saturday. Wood succeeds Lt. Col. Christopher Meetze, who has commanded the battalion since May 2010.

The battalion assists units that provide logistics management, transportation, supply and maintenance in combat and supports local authorities in the event of emergencies at home.

The battalion deployed in 2009 for a year in Al Asad, Iraq.

Prior to this command, Lt. Col. Meetze served as battalion executive officer and commander of the 742nd Maintenance Company, headquartered in Eastover.
