BAMBERG, S.C. (AP) — A deal to build a new hospital for Bamberg and Barnwell counties could be up in the air after the company that wanted to build the new facility didn't purchase the old hospital's assets by the end of June.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg (http://bit.ly/LEMaKT ) reports the Bamberg County Hospital Board is trying to figure out what to do next after Dobbs Equity Partners also failed to pay $23,000 for the hospital's electric bills.
The company used the building and equipment for an acute care clinic after the hospital closed April 30.
Board member Al Palmer doesn't think Dobbs will pay the bills because expenses weren't mentioned when the company got permission to use the hospital.
Dobbs says it is still committed to building a hospital for the counties.
