COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — About 500 members of the South Carolina National Guard are heading to Kosovo for a peacekeeping mission.
The 132nd Military Police Company in West Columbia was one of four units contributing to the deployment Sunday.
Linda Olinski says she's glad her husband Mark is not going to central Asia. But she says she's still worried about the dangers in the region that broke away from Serbia in 1999.
Members of the company say a year of training has prepared them to handle the long-simmering hostilities between Albanians and Serbians in Kosovo.
The soldiers heading to Kosovo volunteered for the yearlong mission.
