Man sentenced to decades in prison for heroin case
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A North Charleston man has been sentenced to decades in prison for his role in a heroin case.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says a judge on Tuesday sentenced 38-year-old Naarl Joseph Richard to nearly 22 years in prison.
Nettles says Richard was convicted last month of possession with intent to distribute heroin.
Prosecutors say Richard drove to New Jersey in May 2009 to meet with his heroin source and then drove back to South Carolina. North Charleston police stopped Richard for a traffic violation and found 1,000 doses of heroin and a Haitian passport inside a secret compartment in his car.
Richard had faced up to 30 years in prison.
