MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A hearing is planned next week for a New Yorker charged with helping his father try to fake his own death in an alleged insurance scam.
Jonathan Roth was arrested Monday on charges including conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.
He initially was due in court Thursday. His attorney, Joey Jackson, says the case has been adjourned until Tuesday.
Jackson declined to discuss the allegations.
Investigators say Roth falsely reported that his father disappeared July 28 at Jones Beach. He has pleaded not guilty.
Authorities believe Raymond Roth first fled to Florida. He was later seen in South Carolina. An attorney says the elder Roth is receiving psychiatric treatment at a Long Island hospital. He expects him to eventually be arrested.
Police say the search cost tens of thousands.
