Superstrom Sandy fuel shortage cancels field trips

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — The Beaufort County School District has cancelled some field trips because of a shortage of diesel fuel caused by Superstorm Sandy.

School officials told The Island Packet of Hilton Head ( ) that students cannot go on five field trips scheduled for Monday and Tuesday because there is not enough fuel to run buses.

The district says some other field trips have been made, like a trip to see an anti-bullying skit at Beaufort High School.

Officials say they have enough fuel to get children to and from school.
