Man gets 20 years in South Carolina toddler death

HONEA PATH, S.C. (AP) — The boyfriend of a baby sitter watching a Honea (HUN'-ee-ah) Path toddler has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the boy's death.

The Anderson Independent-Mail reports (http://bit.ly/1231HNf) that 31-year-old Joshua Babb was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to homicide by child abuse.

Authorities say Babb slammed 23-month-old Christopher Agnew against a door jamb in May 2011 during a fit of anger. The boy later died in surgery.

Prosecutors said Babb was upset his girlfriend had agreed to watch the boy for $5 and some drugs. Babb initially told investigators he was upset the boy was whining and hit his head on a door jamb accidentally.

The toddler's caregiver called 911 saying the child hurt his head after trying to climb out of a playpen.
