LORIS, S.C. (AP) — Officials in Horry County are pushing the owner of the Carolina Southern Railroad to get the trains back on the tracks.

Horry County's only railroad has been closed more than a year because of needed bridge repairs.

Officials in Horry and Marion counties in South Carolina and Columbus County in North Carolina have warned they may go to a federal agency to force a sale of the railroad.

Railroad president Jason Pippin says he doesn't have the up to $2 million it would take to fix the bridges. Pippin says he's trying to get government grants to fix the bridges.

Doug Wendel with the North and South Carolina Interstate Railroad Committee says some local businesses badly need the railroad and it's costing them money to ship products by other means.
