Botany is focus of BioBlitz event in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Want to learn more about the plants growing around you?

The University of South Carolina and the Rosewood Community Council are putting on a BioBlitz on Saturday at Columbia's Owens Field Park.

Organizers say the event is a chance to learn what kinds of plants grow along the park's trail system, and a team of USC botanists will be on hand to help.

There will also be information about environmental quality and land use changes in the Rosewood area near downtown Columbia.

The BioBlitz is open to the public. Maps, data sheets and instructions will be provided.
