YORK, S.C. (AP) — One of the most important victories for patriots in the Revolutionary War took less than an hour at a South Carolina battlefield.
Park Guide Correll Kennedy will describe how the patriots won the Battle of Cowpens starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the York County site.
Historians say Gen. Daniel Morgan carefully and strategically placed militia units, cavalry, and infantry, causing a sudden halt to Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton's British regulars.
The January 1781 battle was one of several in the South that turned the tide of the Revolutionary War.
