CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A driver has been charged with hitting a Charleston County school bus, sending several students to the hospital.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says 51-year-old Darlene Pringle Ridgeville was charged Tuesday afternoon with disregarding a traffic signal.
Authorities say the driver of a school bus carrying 11 special-needs students was trying to make a left turn when Pringle's Nissan SUV ran a red light and hit the bus.
The crash pushed the bus into two other vehicles.
Several students were sent to the hospital for observation, and a school district spokesman says none of the students was seriously hurt.
It wasn't known if Pringle had an attorney.
