LONG CREEK, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina authorities have found the body of a Tampa, Fla., man who died while rafting in the Chattooga River, but they haven't been able to recover him from the water.
Rescue officials said they used a special camera to find Thomas Hill on Friday. His body is in rapids near where he disappeared while on a trip with commercial guides on Wednesday.
Authorities say the river is running too swift to get to Hill's body immediately.
Hill was on a trip run by Southeastern Expeditions. The company says it took all precautions and was cleared to raft down the river Wednesday by the U.S. Forest Service.
A 30-year-old man died last summer at a similar spot on the river along the border of Georgia and South Carolina.
