SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Two men have been convicted of killing a South Carolina man nearly five years ago, even though his body has never been found.
Multiple media outlets reported a Spartanburg County jury deliberated about two hours Wednesday before returning a guilty verdict against 43-year-old David Cortez Carson and 46-year-old Leon Jones.
Retired Supreme Court Justice E.C. Burnett III sentenced the men to 30 years in prison without parole.
Darryl Miller was last seen in July 2005. Investigators are unsure how Miller died, but have the car in which they think he was killed. They say blood samples allowed forensic DNA comparisons.
Spartanburg police arrested Carson and Jones in 2008 after deciding they had all the evidence they could find. Police say the car had belonged to Carson's former girlfriend.
