SC soldier dies of noncombat injuries in Iraq

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A 41-year-old soldier from South Carolina has died in Iraq from noncombat-related injuries.

The U.S. Defense Department said in a news release Saturday Capt. Michael P. Cassidy of Simpsonville died June 17 in Mosul.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

A spokeswoman for Fort Stewart said Saturday had no details about Cassidy's death.
