ROCK HILL, S.C.--The South Carolina Department of Transportation closed down a portion of I-77 Wednesday so that workers could repair a hole in the road.

The DOT shut down the 1-77 southbound lanes between Sutton Road and Cherry Road so that crews could fix a hole located in a bridge deck over the Catawba River. The hole is less than one foot wide.

Drivers are expressing frustration over the long delays the work is causing. Maddie Mohr said driving two miles down the 1-77 stretch took her almost 15 minutes.

"It was pretty much a parking lot," she said.

Crews expect to finish the repairs by Monday.
