CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In Y2 Yoga's recent email blast about weather closings, the word "gay" is used eight times.  The note reads, in part, "Greetings! I know it sounds gay, but we are definitely less gay across the bored (sic) when compared to CMS, BOA, etc, etc.” And, “Mainly, I am being gay.” Also, “Closing completely because of some white stuff is being uber gay!"

The message also includes four disclaimers, suggesting the author used the word "gay" to mean bad or stupid. Another disclaimer read "Pedophiles be damned or at least contract Ebola and die and (sic) painful and agonizingly slow death." And yet another disclaimer read "Pedophiles who feel hurt with my words send your comments to john_walsh@americasmostwanted.com.”

The message from the Cotswold yoga studio was sent out over email and Twitter. One person on Twitter replied: “@Y2Yoga Are you 12 years old? Yoga has obviously brought you no enlightenment -- only homophobia. How sad. Avoid this ignorant place!!!”

CLT Blog asked its Twitter followers for their reactions to the bizarre business announcement. The person who wrote it, yoga studio owner and instructor Tanner Bazemore, tweeted back with “@cltblog An apology has been issued to those offended. It is unfortunate my words were misconstrued. Nothing but love for all. Sorry. OM. TB.”

Charlotte's gay and lesbian business networking organization, the Charlotte Business Guild, also saw the email. President Renae Elam says, "All of the disclaimers at the end actually made the meat, or the body, of the email even worse than it was. The disclaimers were more offensive than the actual email itself. In my opinion, it's never a good idea to use potentially offensive remarks in a business setting."

One of Y2 Yoga's students emailed FOX Charlotte and said "I am gay and have always felt safe inside a yoga studio. Now...I feel as though my safety place of peace has been violated. I will be attending a different studio from here on. “

Bazemore issued an email apology that indicated his "intentions were light hearted" and that he'd been drinking wine while writing it. He sent FOX Charlotte a video statement where he says, in part, "I just want to say that there is a difference between Tanner the person and Y2 the yoga studio. I'm deeply sorry for anyone that was offended by my email. While I might be a moron, I'm not a hurtful person."

Bazemore wants people to come to the studio and experience it for themselves before they make any judgments. He made a $1,000 donation to the "It Gets Better Project," an organization for gay youth.
