15 Displaced After Fire Sweeps Through Kannapolis ApartmentsKANNAPOLIS, NC -- There is no word yet as to what caused an apartment fire in Kannapolis. According to fire investigators, the call came in at the Royal Oak Apartments around 4:17 p.m. on Monday. That complex is on Citadel Court off of Concord Lake Rd. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from one of the buildings, particularly the corner apartment. Fire officials said the fire began to spread in intensity making it unsafe for crews to go inside. They quickly worked to get the fire under control. The American Red Cross is assisting 15 people that were displaced due to the fire. Fire officials did confirm that several residents in the corner apartment became trapped by the flames and were forced to jump out of a second-story window. There were no major injuries reported. Crews are remaining on the scene to make sure the fire does not start up again. Stay tuned for more on this developing story on FOX News @ Ten. .
