2 Killed, 8 Injured in 3 Car Crash
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police have released the names of two women who died in a car crash Saturday night.
Demarus Reid, 20, was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu south in the left lane on Eastway Drive just before midnight when it struck the back of a 2002 Honda Odyssey Van. The Malibu then crossed the double yellow lines and struck a Ford Explorer, traveling north on Eastway.
After hitting the Explorer, the Malibu rolled onto its roof. The four passengers in the Malibu were ejected from the car onto the roadway.
One of the passengers ejected, Deborah Bakashika, was pronounced dead on the scene by Medic. Also in the Malibu, Ashley Gilliam, 20, died shorty after arriving to the hospital. The other two passengers in the Malibu have serious injuries, and Reid's injuries were described as minor.
The occupants of the Explorer and the Odyssey only sustained minor injuries.
Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The Major Crash Investigation Unit is still conducting the investigation.
