22 Families Displaced After Fire in Southwest CharlotteCHARLOTTE, NC -- Investigators now know the cause of an apartment fire that displaced 22 families and injured two firefighters in southwest Charlotte. The call for service came in just before 8 a.m. at the Tyvola Centre Apartments on Glendale Chase Court. Upon arrival, fire officials say they witnessed a 3-story apartment building's roof and attic area engulfed in flames. It took almost 80 firefighters to control the blaze. Two firefighters sustained injuries while trying to fight the fire. After a ceiling collapsed, one of the firefighters was trapped but was quickly rescued. The second firefighter was injured while working on ground operations. Both were transported to an area hospital where they were later treated and released. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental due to a fire that broke out in the attic about a third floor unit. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced families.
