CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Fourth of July is a big day for patriotism and politicians. First Baptist Church of Charlotte brought in a big name Sunday, former presidential candidate and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

As a former Southern Baptist preacher, preaching is not unusual for Governor Mike Huckabee, but these days he's gone from preacher to politician to talk show host.

"What always impresses me, is Charlotte is one of the most progressive and visionary cities in the country." Huckabee's a conservative republican, but he was not talking partisan politics. "I've always admired sort of the tenacity of Charlotte to be this extraordinary influential and urban sort of hot spot in the deep south."

We did catch him up on some of Charlotte's recent happenings. The controversial billboard on Billy Graham Parkway put up by an Atheist group, then vandalized, the word's under God placed on it. "If people want to spend their money to tell everyone they don't believe in God, the joy, beauty, and incredible greatness of America is we let them do it and don't shoot them for it.  "What I would hope is that people who believe in the power of Jesus Christ like I do would put 10 billboards for every one like that."

While Huckabee's mind is on politics, he won't say if he will run for president in 2012. "Having been there before, I'm not ruling it out, it's a tough hill to climb." He says he'll make that decision after the midterm elections.
