CHARLOTTE, NC- It's happened twice in under two weeks. A man exposed himself to a woman jogging on the Harris YMCA outdoor track Wednesday night just before 10p.m. "Some folks think of someone who exposes themself as not a threat and kind of funny. We don't consider this a joke at all. We're taking it very seriously," said Molly Thompson, YMCA of Greater Charlotte senior vice president of public relations. The YMCA employs off-duty police officers as security. An officer who was at the YMCA at the time of the flashing responded immediately, but didn't find anyone. Charlotte-Meckleburg Police are still looking for a man who flashed two women on the track just before 6a.m. on July 24. The Harris YMCA sent an an e-mail out to all members and posted signs around the track Friday reminding members to only walk and run outside during daylight hours. "I think there's a comfort level in the SouthPark area that this stuff won't happen here, but we really want to make sure people are doing right thing by protecting themselves and keeping themselves safe," said Thompson. While they're asking members to do their part, the YMCA is also working with police to step up patrols around the track. "They need to catch him immediately. There's too many children in the area that are playing, neighbors are concerned," said Ken Brown, a South Charlotte resident. Police haven't said if they think both flashings are linked. The description of the first suspect is a white man who is about 5-foot-10 with light brown hair and a muscular build. |
