Benefits For Gays In The MilitaryWASHINGTON--Some say an attempt to make the military more inclusive may really make it more discriminatory. Defense secretary Leon Panetta has directed the defense department to immediately begin efforts to extend benefits to same sex couples. Some are concerned the document that will make it possible does not include unmarried heterosexual couples who are in long term relationships. The pentagon says the benefits extension is fair, especially given the stress on all military families going into a 12th year of war. |
