Bessemer City Police Take Over Law Enforcement from County

by Casie Kolbinsky

BESSEMER CITY, N.C.--Bessemer City police officers returned to the beat Monday night after they officially took over law enforcement from the Gaston County department.

Officers said the cost would be cheaper if Bessemer City began its own department rather than contine to use the county's.

Gaston County provided policing for about 14 years.

Bessemer City now has one police chief, five full-time officers and four part-time officers.
