MARSHVILLE, N.C. -- Union County Sheriff's Office has released new details in a fatal shooting Thursday morning.
According to a release, deputies responded to a burglary just after 1 a.m. on Lanesboro Road in Marshville. Residents of the victim home called 911 saying an intruder, wearing a mask and pointing a gun, had forced his way into their home.
The residents of the home retrieved a loaded weapon and shot at the suspect while he was still inside the house. The suspect fled and was found by responding deputies in the front yard suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased suspect has not been released, pending positive identification from the Medical Examiner and notification of next of kin.
The case is under investigation and will be referred to the Union County District Attorney's Office for final disposition.
