CMPD Releases Report On CIAA-Related Arrests
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- CMPD reports that most arrests in connection with this week's extraordinary event in Charlotte, the CIAA Tournament, were for fighting.
CMPD says their goal for the week of the CIAA Tournament was to maintain a safe environment in the city for event participants to attend. The police department successfully implemented their strategic operations plan during the week-long event.
While the tournament brought in a large crowd to the Queen City, no major incidents were reported related to the CIAA event or the other twelve police divisions. A total of 21 adult arrests were made between the hours of 5 p.m. on February 28, 2013 and 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013, compared to last year's total of 31 CIAA-related arrests.
Most arrests were related to fighting and alcohol. CMPD reports that four arrests were alcohol related and six arrests were for public fighting.
The Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, and several other agencies assisted with making the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte a safe event.
