Police: California Doctor Shot To Death In Examination RoomNEWPORT BEACH, CA-- Neighbors say a man killed a California urologist because he was unhappy with the surgery to fix his prostate problems. Police say Stanwood Fred Elkus, 75, shot Dr. Ronald Franklin Gilbert multiple times on Monday at a medical office in Newport Beach. It is unclear if 52 year-old Gilbert was Elkus' doctor, but police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe says he was the only target of the attack. Elkus suffered from prostate problems and told neighbors he was upset by how his recent surgery left him constantly running to the bathroom. They recall times when he would have to leave mid-conversation to use the restroom. Stanwood Fred Elkus, 75, was jailed on $1 million bail. His court hearing is today. |
