Cam Newton Launches Men's Clothing LineCHARLOTTE, N.C. - At Cam Newton's men's clothing line launch Monday, his only acknowledgment of football was when one of Belk's top brass joked about getting to interview the star QB. Executive Vice President of Private Brands John Thomas said to Newton, "I always wanted to be in sports casting. It's a dream come true. I ended up in retail by mistake." Newton replied, "By mistake? I think I ended up in football by mistake, too." Nonetheless, Newton seemed excited about his latest venture: MADE. "Cam" is spelled backwards in the logo. The football player approached Belk last spring about the project. He says, "I've had so many opportunities to do things and this takes the cherry by all means." The clothing line will hit store shelves in the spring. FOX News @ Ten anchor Morgan Fogarty asked Newton, "Are you going to wear your clothes?" He replied by opening his suit jacket to reveal the "MADE" label and said, "Right there, I'm wearing it right now." Newton, known for being a sharp dresser, told Fogarty that dressing with care says a lot about who you are. "If I'm caught with some baggy jeans, sagging, with a white tee shirt and this is a fan of mine who comes up and approaches me with his mom or something, I think they're gonna be deterred by my approach or my appearance," he explained. Pieces in the line will range from $20 to $120. If it's well-received, Newton told Fogarty that a women's line or home furnishings may be in the future. When the news hit Twitter, sports fans reacted strongly with comments like, "Wish he would focus on football", he "Values status as entertainer slash icon above ALL else" and "Hitting more receivers would impress more." |
