Car Hits Mailbox, Trees Killing FourBROADWAY, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities have released the names of the four people killed when a car crashed into an empty house near Sanford. Troopers say 31-year-old Aaron Powers was driving on U.S. 421 in Broadway in Lee County around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when the car ran off the left side of the road.
Investigators say the 2006 Dodge Charger was likely speeding as it hit a mailbox and several trees before flipping over and bursting into flames when it hit the home.
Authorities say 35-year-old Katherine Powers and 33-year-old Christopher Baker, each of Broadway, and 38-year-old Rebecca Powell, of Chapin, S.C., also died in the crash.
Troopers weren't sure about the relationship between any of the victims.
