The Carolina Panthers announced the addition of Fred Graves and Pete Hoener as assistant coaches Monday. Graves, who has spent the last four seasons with Tennessee, will coach the wide receivers while Hoener, who comes to Carolina after six years in San Francisco, will work with the Panthers tight ends.

Graves coached Justin Gage and Nate Washington to career‐best years with the Titans and also played a role in the development of rookie Kenny Britt in 2009.

After a long college‐coaching career, Graves began coaching the NFL with the Buffalo Bills in 2001 and helped Eric Moulds to a 100‐catch season. He worked one season with Cleveland (2004) and spent a year with Detroit (2005) before joining the Titans in 2007.

Prior to going to the NFL Graves spent 26 years in college coaching, including 19 years at his alma mater, the University of Utah in a variety of capacities. While with the Utes, he served as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, and running back coach as well as mentoring the receivers.

Hoener, pronounced (HAY‐ner), played an instrumental role in the development of tight ends Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker, both of whom were selected by the 49ers in the 2006 NFL Draft.

In 2010, Davis recorded 56 receptions for 914 yards and seven touchdowns, while Walker notched 29 catches for 331 yards.

In 2009, Hoener tutored Davis to one of the most prolific seasons by an NFL tight end in recent history, a campaign that landed him a starting role in the 2010 Pro Bowl. With 13 receiving touchdowns, Davis tied an NFL record for the most touchdowns in a season by a tight end. His 13 touchdown catches were tied for the most in the NFL with Patriots WR Randy Moss and Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald in 2009, making him the first tight end in the Super Bowl era to lead or tie for the league lead in touchdown catches in a season. Davis also led the team with career‐highs of 78 receptions and 965 receiving yards. Walker also experienced a productive season, posting a career‐high 233 receiving yards on 21 catches.

Prior to his time in San Francisco, Hoener spent the 2004 season as the offensive line coach of the Chicago Bears and three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, as both the offensive line coach (2003) and tight ends coach (2001‐02). Hoener broke into the NFL coaching ranks with the St. Louis Cardinals (1985‐86), tutoring the tight ends while working alongside Jim Hanifan.

In addition to his nine years of NFL experience, Hoener chalked up more than 25 years of college coaching knowledge, including 15 as an offensive coordinator. Hoener played football and earned a bachelor’s degree from Bradley University (1974).
