A similar service took place in Jerusalem. The day marked 70 years since the Warsaw ghetto uprising- a symbol of Jewish resistance against Nazis in World War 2. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli President Shimon Peres both attended.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Holocaust survivors and their families in Charlotte gathered yesterday to remember the millions of Jews killed in World War 2.

The Jewish Community Center held services yesterday for Holocaust Memorial Day.

The JCC has also been hosting workshops for several months in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, where middle school students listened to stories from Holocaust survivors. Organizers say kids need to be able to identify prejudice in their own lives.
