Charlotte Fire Fighter Charged with Assault & Animal Cruelty
GASTONIA, N.C. - A Charlotte firefighter is on administrative duty while facing charges of felony assault and felony cruelty to animals. 29-year-old Bryan Barfield was arrested early Saturday morning in Gastonia.
He is charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault with inflicting serious injury, one felony count of assault by strangulation, one misdemeanor count of communicating threats and one felony count of cruelty to animals.
Charlotte Fire Chief Jon Hannan says, “As the investigation is ongoing, I am unable to comment on the details of this case. However, I want our citizens to know we hold our firefighters to a high standard of conduct in order to maintain the trust and respect of our community.”
As of Monday evening, Barfield remains behind bars on a $10,000 bond. He works at Fire Station One.
