Charlotte Firefighter Faces Assault, Animal Cruelty Charges
GASTONIA, N.C. -- Gaston Police arrested a 29-year old firefighter for assault charges and animal cruelty.
Bryan Barfield, employed by Charlotte Fire Department, was taken into custody Saturday morning.
Documents released to WCCB show the victim lives at the same address as Barfield.
Captain Rob Brisley of Charlotte Fire Department said in a statement, "The Charlotte Fire Department is aware of this Incident involving a member of the department and is looking into the circumstances regarding the charges."
Barfield had his first court appearance on Monday. He faces three misdemeanor counts including communicating threats and two counts of assault inflicting serious injury.
Barfield has been with Charlotte Fire Department since October 2011.
He has been placed on paid administrative duty while the case is under investigation.
