CHARLOTTE,NC--Health officials are warning about the spread of deadly drug resistant bacteria.

Hospitals in Charlotte have a plan to deal with patients who may become infected.

The CDC says the bacteria known as CRE has shown up at nearly 200 hospitals and nursing homes around the country and is resistant to even the strongest antibiotics.

Carolinas health-care system tests patients who may be at risk for contracting CRE which also isolates patients and requires health providers to wear gowns, gloves and wash their hands.

Special procedures are used to decontaminate the rooms when infected patients leave.
