Charlotte, NC - 7-Eleven signs with the words coming soon are popping up around Charlotte.  The franchise is taking over 55 Sam's Mart stores and converting them to 7-11's.  Speaking of the conversion, Jeff Edge with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce says, "A lot of people are gonna look at it and say hey it's a great place I can go get my slurpee, but for other people who are out there who are unemployed, its another opportunity for a job." 120 of them to be exact.  That's on top of the people being kept on from Sam's Mart.  That's just in the short term, long term, Edge predicts  even more expansion and more jobs.
But for customers like Adam McGuire who patronizes the new 7-Eleven on Rea Road, jobs are less of a pressing issue than pricing.  He works just a short work from the store and visits everyday.  He's quick to point out "I get the same thing all the time, every morning. I get a Honey Nut Cheerios breakfast bar, 5 hour energy and a vitamin water. and it's cheaper now than it was before?  yeah, it's a little bit cheaper." And he knows first hand, because he's been s steady patron since before the transition to 7-Eleven.  Other customers however believe prices have gone up since the 7-Eleven take over.
Either way, Jeff Edge with the Chamber of Commerce says having 7-Eleven in the market is good for everyone.  He says, "Its certainly something that brings competition to the marketplace which is always good for the consumers."  And he points out, beyond the benefit to the casual consumer; in this economy, the jobs 7-Eleven is bringing with it are as sought after as a slurpee on a sweltering summer day.
